In European cooperation the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron DESY plans the construction of an X-ray laser. The plant is designed to produce high-intense ultra-short X-ray flashes with the characteristics of laser-light for scientific purposes.

The enclosing walls are designed as double anchored diaphragm walls that show reduced deformation. In crossing zones such as the tunnel connection to the parliament building and the service tunnel a double anchored sheet-pile wall was used in order to make feasible the later connection to the neighbour excavation pits.

The new service wing of the opera house will enlarge the existing stage and will provide space for rehearsal stages, depots and other service facilities. A commercial and office wing will envelope the service wing on two sides.

At the suburban fringe of Tashkent, Uzbekistan, a logistic centre is being planned, comprising a cotton warehouse of 20,000 m² to 30,000 m² and various other warehouses for coffee, tea and miscellaneous import goods as well as a container terminal.

Financed by KfW in cooperation with the Government of the Peoples Republic of Mo-zambique a silo with a conveyor bridge and a mobile ship-unloader was implemented. First step was a feasibility study to determine the need for such storage facility.

Financed by KfW in cooperation with the Zimbabwean Government two silos were built and an existing one extended. The silo at Lions Den was up-graded in its equipment and increased in storage capacity (to 125.000 t).

In order to extend the HHLA Container Terminal Tollerort in the Port of Hamburg another 300 m of quay wall were built. In addition the “Europakai” was extended by 50 m and in connection with this land with an area of approximately 40.000 m² claimed.

In an existing silo various elements like a certain number of bins were demolished and replaced by office facilities. The total area is 33 x 33 m. The existing silo had a height of 43 m. Six of the external bins were included in the new construction.

The orthopaedic section of the University Hospital Eppendorf was rebuilt and in addition extended by a new building.

The Logistik Terminal Waltershof, Hamburg, is planning to build a second warehouse for storage of sports and leisure fabrics. A part of the building will serve as a storage space of water pollutants.

To secure the company location in Hamburg, Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg GmbH intends to expand its storage capacities for containers. The site of the former tank area Dradenau has been chosen for the extension of the company grounds.

The new residential and office building in the Hamburg HafenCity with a building area of approximately 5,000 m² is located at the edge of the historical “Speicherstadt“ in a row of 8 new buildings at the waterfront.

In order to utilize the hard-salt storage in the salt deposits of Bokeloh K+S AG developed their own method to produce the special fertiliser “Kieserit”. This method is based on an electro-static separation method. The plant has a capacity of 300.000 t/a.

The Schwinge Bridge is a section of the detour around the city of Stade.An opening of 15 m width has to be provided to ensure the accessibility to the ships on the river Schwinge.

The Institute for forensic medicine was reconstructed and in addition extended by a new 2-storey building. The existing building was built in the 1960s. By the addition the total area increases from 843 m² to 2,130 m².

Two buildings, with plan areas of 4.000 m² and 2.000 m², are designed for the storage and handling of tea and other packaged goods in the year 2003.

In order to make the new areas of the HafenCity accessible to fire protection and first aid services, there is a need for a new network of pathways at 7.5 m above sea level (SL). The Kibbelsteg bridges connect this network to the high tide protected areas of the inner city, crossing the Zollkanal, the Brooksfleet, and the “Am Sandtorkai“ street.

The waste water treatment plant in Lübeck has set a long-term plan to decontaminate the discharge system and to convert the central treatment pools of the existing mixed water canalisation to a divided canalisation system. In achieving this goal, the treatment plant requires the construction of two new underground collection channels.

The existing quay, built in 1985 for the container terminal at Rheinhafen Germersheim, which is operating at full capacity, was extended by 145 m.

The construction of the “Klimahaus“ (Climate House) in the area between the old harbour of Bremerhaven and the river Weser will create a special tourist attraction for Bremerhaven.

A new Highway bridge is planned to substitute the removed railway crossing of Dassauweg in Hamburg. The construction site is situated in the natural conservation area.

A new multi-storey covered car park with about 400 parking lots is planned to be constructed in the area of the existing P+R-complex situated in the northwest of Bergedorf’s S-Bahn train station. This plan anticipates a future addition of about 800 more parking lots.

The new footbridge at the Buchholz Train Station will serve as a connection between the two city areas, which are separated by the railway track. Furthermore, new staircases and elevators will provide access to the northern and southern platforms.

As a replacement for the dilapidated partially two-span bridge complex over the Mönkedammfleet, built between 1840 and 1910, a new singlespan road bridge is situated along the Alter Wall street.

To secure the present status of Hamburg and especially that of the EurogateContainer Terminal as leading trans-shipment location the City of Hamburg built another 380 m of quay wall.

The project includes an extruder- and a mixing-plant for grain as well as a machine tower and a warehouse.

The TESLA Test Facility (TTF) is an experimental plant with the purpose to test the operation of the linear accelerator (LC) and the X-ray laser (XFEL) for the planned 33 km long TeV Energy Superconducting Linear Accelerator (TESLA).

The existing milling plant (Rosenmühle) at Landshut was extended by a mill with the capacity of 180 t/d soft wheat.

The Wesermühlen Hameln replaced their existing open-air discharging system by a new plant integrated in their main mill building. Discharging capacity for wheat-, rye- and maize-milling-products now is 150 t/h.

The glass bridge over the Bugenhagenstraße, Hamburg, serves as a footbridge connecting two buildings with a weather protection.

In connection with the modernization of the milling plant Ellmühle at Cologne-Deutz the existing unloader was extended to a total length of 14 m. Reason was lack of reach due to changed water-levels.

Three different underground routes have been proposed to connect the “HafenCity“, Hamburg’s newly developing city district, to the underground public transportation network. WTM carried out the feasibility studies and cost estimation for each of the variants.

The milling company Mühlschlegel Besitz GbR in the industrial area of Weickelsdorf (Germany) implemented a milling plant with a capacity of 360 t/d. Size of the respective plot is 28.000 m².

Between July 2000 and January 2001 building passes were prepared for 367 general-education schools in Hamburg.
