| Pedestrian bridge over the old harbour in Bremerhaven
The construction of the “Klimahaus“ (Climate House) in the area between the old harbour of Bremerhaven and the river Weser will create a special tourist attraction for Bremerhaven.
A new footbridge across the old harbour is planned to serve as the central connection between the downtown area and the “Klimahaus”. To realise the accessibility of the old harbour for large ships, the bridge is designed as a swing bridge in the basin of the harbour. The pedestrian bridge is a steel structure with an length of 105 m and a width of 5 m between handrails, enclosed by a glass overhead barrier. The superstructure of the bridge is a tube-shaped steel truss supported by concrete columns resting on a deep pile foundation. The steel structure consists of horizontal compression bars and diagonal tension bars between elliptical frames at 3,5 m intervals.
